Methyldiethanolamine (MDEA)
Methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) is a clear, water-white, hygroscopic liquid with an ammoniacal odor.
Molecular Formula: C5H13O2N
Usage
Methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) is mainly used as a solvent to remove H 2 S (and strip CO 2 ) in gas treating.
Methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) has low vapor pressure that enable high amine compositions retain its
condition through the absorber and regenerator. Methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) is also resistant to
thermal and chemical degradation and is largely immiscible with hydrocarbons. Methyldiethanolamine
(MDEA) has a relatively low heat of reaction with hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide, which allows for
lower reboiler duties, thus lower operating costs.
