Propylene Glycol (PG)

Propylene Glycol (PG) is a colorless, viscous and odorless liquid. It is highly hygroscopic and miscible in all ratios with water, alcohols, esters, ketones and amines. It has limited miscibility with halogenated hydrocarbons and is not miscible with aliphatic hydrocarbons.

Molecular Formula : C3H8O2

Usage
Propylene Glycol USP Grade (PG) is used in the food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical industries, food colorings and flavorings. In the personal care industry, it is used as a moisturizer in make-up, shampoo, bubble bath and baby wipes.  The pharmaceutical industry uses propylene glycol (PG) as a solvent in oral, injectable, and topical formulations.

Propylene Glycol (PG) – Industrial grade also has a variety of uses but the main application is as an antifreeze and aircraft wing and runway deicer.  This is because the freezing point of propylene glycol (PG) lowers upon mixing with water.  It is also used in heat transfer liquids such as engine coolants.

Propylene Glycol (PG) can be used for chemical intermediate in the production of high-performance unsaturated polyester resins used in paints and varnishes.  It is also an excellent solvent that is utilized in printing inks non-ionic detergents, sugar-refining, and paper making industries.  Propylene Glycol (PG) can also be used in the cryonics industry and can be used as an additive in pipe tobacco as it prevents dehydration.
